The Future of Michigan Turn Marshals? 

The Board of Directors present at the annual MTM Winter Party/Meeting held discussion on February 26, 2000.

The organization has been faced with many dilemmas in recent years. Input was sought from MTM members on several occasions. Increasing number of events and increasing requests for the services of MTM has strained our organization. The following were the decisions made by the Board of Directors:

DECISIONS

1. Michigan Turn Marshals will continue to exist in 2000. The decisions taken will be reviewed during this season.

2. Michigan Turn Marshals will, for a fee for service, provide a mailing service for race organizers only to register marshals to work race events.

3. Mailers will be sent out by

a.      email (response should go to npschilke@home.com ) and

b.      snail mail to be returned to Nancy Schilke or

c.      MTM members may volunteer their services on the MTM response website (courtesy of Tom Bateman)

4. Michigan Turn Marshals will not provide Chiefs of Flagging and Communications for events that will be the responsibility of the organizing region or body. MTM will be willing to lend some assistance in obtaining an event chief for the imminent events, but cannot guarantee that one of the MTM members will volunteer for that position.

5. MTM will not provide fire bottles, flags, water jugs, report forms and safety equipment to races. Tracks and organizers will be responsible for providing these items for their events.  MTM Equipment will be stored and rented to Grattan Raceway. Regions holding races at Grattan Raceway will have the option of renting the MTM equipment. Wayne Rodgers has graciously volunteered to oversee the equipment stored at Grattan. The board has decided to make Wayne an honorary MTM member.

6. MTM will continue to train new recruits to the ranks of Flagging and Communications.
